Building Bridges to College: 4th Annual LGR Benefit EventThank you to everyone who supported Let's Get Ready at the Building Bridges to College Benefit. ![]() April 27, 2010 - A record crowd of nearly 550 guests attended the 4th annual Let’s Get Ready event held under the 59th Street Bridge at Guastavino’s. The evening honored Stephen Karotkin (Partner, Weil Gotshal, and Let’s Get Ready Board Member) and Andre Royo (Actor, The Wire) who was well represented by cast-mate Jamie Hector (at right, receiving award from student Isaac McManus). The event also featured many of Let’s Get Ready’s impressive high school and college students, several of whom provided updates on their own path to and through college. ![]() Lynda Bacquero, two-time Emmy-award winning correspondent with NBC 4 New York, served as the evening’s host. In Ms. Bacquero’s opening remarks, she spoke about her passion for education and commitment to service. ![]() The evening began with a lively cocktail hour, during which new and long-time LGR supporters met with students and volunteers who proudly shared their stories and LGR memories. While guests mingled and sampled delicious passed hors d’oeuvres by Guastavino’s, many drifted over to the silent auction tables, where they would compete for the highest bid on unique jewelry, artwork, sports memorabilia and fine dining. Four restaurants – Calle Ocho, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Pranna and S.O.B’s had tables of their own from which they served delectable tastes of their signature dishes. The dinner format was a first time ever “tasting at your table.” Instead of visiting restaurant tables to get samples of their food, 10 small plates were served to each diner. Many thanks to the participating restaurants: Café du Soleil, Chat, The Cookery, Dardanel, La Mangeoire, North Square, Rainwater Grill, and Zitoune. During the dinner, guests were encouraged to help high school students achieve their college dreams by donating to the Let’s Get Ready “Bridge to College.” For every $500 raised, a student completes an LGR program and is placed on the road to opportunity.
