Incoming college freshmen from Let’s Get Ready‘s programs throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England recently gathered for several Transition Day events where they attended workshops, panels, and activities to help them prepare for their first semester on campus. They were also rewarded with dorm supplied from Grad Bag, an organization that reclaims and repurposes lightly used essentials like bed sheets, pillows, and electronics.

About 250 students attended the August 4 event at NYU‘s Kimmel Center. A record attendance was made possible by the support of NYU’s Enrollment Management Team. The next day over 170 attended Transition Day at the Center for  Nonprofits in Boston, while 25 met at Colby College’s Diamond Hall in Maine. Additional dates were held at Wesleyan University and Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville.

The students, many of whom donned their college-to-be t-shirts, had participated in Let’s Get Ready‘s Access Program, which provides free SAT tutoring and peer-to-peer college mentoring to students from low-income backgrounds, most of whom will be the first in their family to attend college.
